TUTORS
Background
In 2007 we ran over 100 courses and activities embracing academic and vocational study, performing and visual arts, music, sports, information technology, new media, personal development, entertainment and peer volunteer initiatives. Subjects as diverse as Careers in the City, The Trading Floor, Emergency Room week, Photography, Driving Theory, First Aid, Maths without Calculators, Jewellery Design and Making, Bollywood Dance, Film Making, Kick & Thai Boxing, Cricket, Tourism, Psychology, to name a few.
Approximately 120 different tutors and 80 partners are involved in
delivering the programmes each year and we want to continue to work with
more tutors and build more partnerships.
Our priorities for the Summer Programmes
1) Improve access to young
people who are less likely to hear about the opportunities we offer
2) We will also aim to:
- Help young people with transition into Higher Education
- Help young people with transition into careers & work placements
- Increase in volunteering opportunities within the Borough for young
people
- Improve attendance & retention within our programmes
- Increase special needs programmes with more financial support from
schools
- Increase the occurrence of popular courses (some courses are
massively oversubscribed - recognising that young people's confidence is
knocked when they can't go on them)
